I did a presentation on mental health, self-care, psychosocial hazards and academia on the 23/2/24 for a cohort of PhD chemistry students across different universities. This post is primarily to provide a home for the slide deck of that presentation for participants to access.
Thanks to all those in attendance. I hope I was able to provide something of value. If yes, please let me know. If no, let me know what would have worked better for you.
Something that was good (for me) in putting this presentation together was trying to build a narrative that starts with understanding the concept of mental health, focusing on what we can do for our own mental health (self-care) and then expanding the frame of reference to include our colleagues and co-workers.
The psychosocial hazards slides come from a masterclass presentation written by the team at Be Well Co. I am a faciltator of their programs and lectures. The mental health and self-care slides come from my own work and learning on the topics.
This presentation is the beginnings of a shift for me, from conceptualising mental health at the individual level, to conceptualising it at a collective level. What I hope is a fruitful path of discovery for me.
Hi there, I happened to stumble across these slides as I was looking up your CPD journal.
They are brilliant! Thank you for making them freely available.
The information in the slides seamlessly entwines research, concepts and frameworks from a variety of sources in a coherent , logical and engaging way! I particularly like the way you have broken down developing a self care plan into four steps. It feels more in reach this way and not ‘another thing to do’ because I should. Thanks again for making this information accessible and palatable 😊
